Ricordo in particolare una stampa giapponese di Hiroshige Utagawa, “Neve serale a Asuka-yam”, in cui la neve sembrava fioccare fuori dal foglio. E anche “Contest of beauties from Pleasure Quarters” di Torii Kiyonaga, in cui belle e leggiadre geishe camminano per strada, senza che la strada appaia di sfondo, chiacchierando silenziosamente. Una stampa in particolare ricordo bene, perché è appesa sul muro a fianco del mio futon: è una stampa di Katsushika Hokusai in cui un uomo avanza tra le folate di vento e suoi soffi si sentono sul viso se lo si guarda da vicino.
La staordinaria capacità di cattuare e rinchiudere i quattro elementi sono la cosa che più amo delle antiche stampe giapponesi.
Especially I remember a Japanese print by Hiroshige Utagawa, "Evening snow at Asuka-yam", where the snow seems to shower out of the paper. And also "Contest of beauties from Pleasure Quarters" by Torii Kiyonaga, where beautiful and graceful geisha walk down the streeet, without the road appearing in the background, talking in silence. One particular print I remember above all because is hanged on the wall nearby my futon: it is a print by Katsushika Hokusai where a man walks through the windblasts and you can perceive the breath of the wind on his face if you get near to the paper.
The extraordinary skill to capture and cloister the Four Elements is what I love most of japanese prints.
